Mamunya IP continues supporting IP Ukraine NOW conference

Mamunya IP as an IP specialty firm is delighted to support the annual autumn event IP Ukraine NOW organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA).

Every year IP UKRAINE NOW provides excellent networking opportunities for Ukrainian and foreign intellectual property professionals.

IP UKRAINE NOW 2022 was held virtually in a number of Ukrainian cities. This year’s discussions were focused on, inter alia, the changes in the state intellectual property management system, the current status of National IP Office, anti-counterfeiting, jurisprudence and effective remedies during the Martial Law in Ukraine, etc.

Oleksandr Mamunya, Chairman of the UBA Committee on Intellectual Property, Managing Partner at Mamunya IP, started the forum and gave the floor for welcoming words to the IP lawyers currently serving for the Armed Forces and defending Ukraine on the front lines.

“Events like this are timely for several reasons. Firstly, it is a sign of a well-functioning economy. Secondly, such events form a general idea in the Ukrainian business environment and in the society of the value of innovations and the importance of the ability to work therewith.

And thirdly, such events shape an understanding by Ukrainian society of how important it is to respect other people's intellectual property and to play by the rules of civilized countries - given that Ukrainian army and Ukrainian people are fighting for the chance to live in a country where the rule of law is respected”, mentioned Oleksii Lukianov, Senior Associate at Mamunya IP, military serviceman.

During the second session, led by Oleksandr Mamunya, speakers focused their attention on the problem of counterfeiting. The panel discussed fighting against counterfeit products and the respective novels of jurisprudence, changes in the conduct of counterfeiters in Ukraine after the start of the full-scale war, new means for combating those.

Moreover, speakers discussed policies and approaches of major online marketplaces to the protection of IP rights; cooperation between IP right holders, Ukrainian online marketplaces and law enforcement agencies to effectively combat counterfeiting; risks of holding online platforms liable for IP infringements.

“I hope this discussion would continue in law enforcement practice and help us, legal practitioners, right holders, and those who work for online marketplaces and law enforcement agencies, to improve the IP enforcement practice.

Will be looking forward to seeing everyone at IP UKRAINE NOW 2023 in Kherson in person!”, summarized Oleksandr Mamunya.
