IP UKRAINE NOW 2024: Karl Popper Debate and Charity Auction

This year, the format of the traditional annual IP UKRAINE NOW conference, organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association, was updated with a specific panel “genre” – Karl Popper-style debates. According to the rules, participants were divided into two teams of three experts each, with the audience serving as judges.

One team (affirmative) supported a specific thesis while the other team (negative) opposed it. The teams were formed by drawing lots, meaning participants could argue a position that did not necessarily reflect their personal views.

The thesis discussed was: “At the current stage of development, Ukraine should adhere to minimal standards of intellectual property protection.”

As a result of the debate and audience vote, the affirmative team prevailed with 55% of the votes compared to 45% for the negatives.

We thank all participants for their contribution to these engaging debate! This format not only raised important issues but also strengthened collaboration among the experts, marking a significant step forward in the development of intellectual property rights protection in Ukraine.

Participants of the IP Forum also took part in a charity auction. The auction items included traditional ones such as trench candles, crafts made from shell casings, legal masterclasses, battle unit flags, and friendly tours to competitor firms, as well as more exotic items, like a shark tooth.

We are extremely proud to actively contribute to the development and refinement of legislation for intellectual property rights protection. We believe in Ukraine and are committed to doing everything within our power to support its path toward becoming a peaceful, prosperous, and just nation.
